Although 2020 brought some extreme challenges that none of us could have ever imagined, it also brought many positives and opportunities. Let’s take a look at the ups and downs of 2020 and what happened in the incineration industry with Firelake Manufacturing.
Incinerator Sales Light Up Across North America & Overseas
Despite being in a pandemic, Firelake Manufacturing sold incinerators to many new industries, organizations, and countries around the world. In 2020, we sold our incineration products to six different Canadian Provinces and forty US States. We also built a custom incinerator for a hospital in Yap, Micronesia, where we sent a small crew of people to install it. Another custom incinerating system by Firelake was sold and shipped to the country of Panama.

Coronavirus and Incineration of Medical Waste
The Coronavirus pandemic forced many hospitals & medical facilities to consider on-site disposal for medical waste such as linens, gowns, rags, wipes, masks, gloves, facemasks, etc. “Incinerating medical clothing, personal protective equipment, and facemasks help remove the virus from the environment so it can’t spread further. Burning the medical waste in an incinerator with sufficiently high temperatures incinerates the waste into a sterile ash.”

Incineration for Large Animal Disposal during Crisis Management
COVID-19 caused plant shutdowns across the country. In Minnesota, many hog farmers had nowhere to sell their pigs and were forced to kill and dispose of 200,000 animals (Minnpost article about COVID-related swine disposal here). Incineration can be a viable option for large animal disposal for normal daily use. But, it can also be part of a solution during crisis management, such as the Coronavirus. When swine incinerators are in place, hog farmers would have an option for both during a crisis and normal daily management.

More Industries are Embracing Incinerator Systems
In 2020, we sold products to many different organizations and industries that many people may not associate with incineration at first. Some examples include:
- Law Enforcement Agencies such as the State Patrol and County Sheriff Agencies have used our incinerators for evidence or contraband destruction.
- Small butcher shops and organic meat processing plants have used our incinerators to destroy animal waste.
- One of our growing customer bases is the rapidly growing medical marijuana business, which uses incinerators to destroy leftover marijuana debris.
Customer Story: Incinerator for Medical Waste Destruction Grows into More
What started off as a medical waste drop off site has expanded to be disposal and incineration for not just medical waste, but also drug and prohibited food disposal and more. A medical waste disposal plant overseas uses two incinerators from Firelake Manufacturing, the P25 and the A850. The client commented, “The P25 has had a lot of intensive use during these COVID-19 times… it is still working well, a quality and tough incinerator… same as our A850.”
